I am a Korean-American plant mom and aspiring “creative” who loves houseplants and stopmotion! I live in California with my husband, 75+ plants, and imaginary dino friend Roary the Plantasaurus .What is the story behind “lettuce with a perm”?10 years ago, my friend asked me to describe curly kale. This was back when kale was just becoming popular as a superfood and she had never heard of it. The first thing that popped into my mind was - it’s like lettuce, but with a perm!Perms were a big part of my childhood. When I was little, my halmoni (grandma) used to plop me in a cart, wheel me over to the Korean salon, and give herself and me matching curly perms. I recently found out my halmoni loved plants too and had an incredible garden. We didn’t get a chance to bond over that before she passed, but I’m lucky to have many other memories with her. Like ahjumma perms!”Lettuce with a perm” is all about keeping houseplants and creativity alive. Join me and let your imagination grow wild!
